The subject matter these paintings include: color, emotion, surface quality, texture, gesture, and the process of "mark-making." I strive to reveal the truth of color, emotion, and expression in my work.
I do not enter my studio with any preconceived plan of execution for my next piece; instead I set out using my instincts and grab the first hue I am drawn to. Building upon that color, I later introduce more colors that accent a strong relationship of balance.
The expressive and emotional content are driven by my own inner beliefs, which break free of boundaries. That is how I work, no set plan, no holding back and fearless of experimentation.
Expressive applications of paint can mirror one's own sense of the world, which is constantly changing in its' uncertainty. For me, paint functions both to create the illusion of depth and to break this illusion in favor of surface qualities. My interest in the concept of metamorphosis stems from the transformative changes I've observed in others and in myself and the extraordinary coping mechanisms employed by man. I choose to not title many of my paintings for the simple fact that what I experience in my painting process may not necessarily be what viewer's experience is. A title is what the artist gives the painting and I believe that viewers have the right to find their own meaning.
